The Graphelmis scapularis and G. clermonti species groups are designated within the genus Graphelmis
DELEVE, 1968. The former includes only one, already known species, the latter
comprises three known and six newly described species: G. clermonti (PIC,
1923), G. ambigua DELEVE, 1970, G. shirahatai
(NOMURA, 1958), G. boukali sp.nov., G. spiralis sp.nov.,
G. schillhammeri sp.nov., G. fulvolineata sp.nov., G. cornuta sp.nov. and G. sausai sp.nov.
Diagnoses of the species groups, habitus and detail drawings of characteristic structures of genitalia and pregenital segments
and scanning electron microscopy photographs of some male metatibiae are presented.
The study presents selected results of almost 25 years of research of Pipunculidae fauna in Slovakia. Eudorylas okalii sp.nov.
Kozánek et Kehlmaier is described.
The following new combinations are proposed:
Claraeola clavata (Becker, 1897) (Eudorylas) and
Clistoabdominalis ruralis (Meigen, 1824) (Eudorylas).
Chalarus brevicaudis Jervis, 1992; Ch. exiquus
(Haliday, 1833); Ch. indistinctus
Jervis, 1992; Ch. juliae Jervis,
1992; Ch. perplexus Jervis, 1992; Nephrocerus lapponicus
Zetterstedt, 1838; Cephalosphaera germanica
Aczél, 1940; Claraeola clavata
(Becker, 1897); Cla. halterata (
Meigen, 1838); Eudorylas carpathicus Kozánek, 1993;
E. demeyeri Kozánek, 1993; E. fusculus
(Zetterstedt, 1844); E. goennersdorfensis
Dempewolf et Dunk1996;
E. holosericeus (Becker, 1897); E. unicolor
(Zetterstedt, 1844); E. vonderdunki
Dempewolf, 1998; E. zonatus (Zetterstedt
, 1849); Tomosvaryella cilitarsis (Strobl, 1910) and
T. israelensis De Meyer, 1995 are reported for the first time from
Slovakia. Altogether, 101 Pipunculidae species belonging to 14 genera are listed.
The genus Limnichomorphus Pic and its two known species
(L. curtulus Pic from Vietnam and L. ohbayashii
Satô from the Ryukyu archipelago) are re-described, and their male
and female genitalia figured for the first time. Lectotype and Paralectotypes are designated for L. curtulus.
The genus is placed in a newly characterised "Limnichus group of genera" based on external and genital characters,
including (in addition to Limnichus Latreille) the genera
Geolimnichus Hernando & Ribera, Limnichoderus
Casey and Limnichomorphus Pic.
Two new species of Limnichomorphus are described, L. puetzi sp.nov. from Nepal, and
L. ciampori sp.nov. from Borneo. The two species are characterised by their external morphology and male genitalia.
Tribalus olexai, sp.nov. from southern Anatolia (Turkey) is described and compared with related species.
The dominant families in all studied Gondwanian sites are the extant families Mesoblattinidae (= Blattidae) and/or Blattellidae.
Adults of a small species of Umenocoleidae with polyphagoid affinities (plesiomorphies) are found in Lebanese amber (together
with diverse immatures of a single species of Mesoblattinidae, and Blattulidae). The assemblage of the rich Santana Formation
in Brazil is dominated by Blattellidae, with subdominant Blattulidae, and also Umenocoleidae. Impression fossils from Israel are
a single adult Mesoblattinidae in the Barremian and two isolated wings, one of Mesoblattinidae and another of Blattellidae, in
the Turonian. Polyphagidae are absent from the Cretaceous Gondwana. The radiation of modern Blattaria into Gondwana must have
taken place after the Barremian.
Based on roaches, the hypothesis of the relationship of the Israeli fauna to the Laurasian rather to Gondwanian sites
(Dobruskina et al. 1997) is questioned, but the fauna of the Lebaneese amber is
found related (with a sister species) to the undescribed fauna of the New Jersey amber.
New taxa described herein are Gondwablatta abrahami gen. et sp.nov. (Barremian); Nymphoblatta azari gen et sp.nov.
(Hauterivian-Aptian); Turoniblatta israelica gen et sp.nov. and Nehevblattella grofitica gen. et sp.nov. (Turonian).
The fifth and largest new species group Graphelmis picta is designated within the genus
Graphelmis Deléve, 1968, comprising nine known and twenty five new
species: G. picta (Reitter, 1886), G. biroi
(Bollow, 1942), G. verpa
Jäch, 1985, G. binervosa (Reitter, 1886),
G. diaphoroderes Jäch, 1985, G. lomata
Jäch, 1985, G. oxytela
Jäch, 1985, G. pallidipes (Carter, 1926),
G. palawanensis sp.nov., G. ceylonica (Motschulsky, 1859),
G. loebli sp.nov., G. jendeki sp.nov., G. kubani sp.nov., G. convexa sp.nov.,
G. balkei sp.nov., G. clava sp.nov., G. riberai sp.nov., G. picea sp.nov.,
G. vogleri sp.nov., G. basalis sp.nov., G. hlavaci sp.nov., G. securipes sp.nov.,
G. strbaki sp.nov., G. tuberculata sp.nov., G. philemoni sp.nov., G. togianica sp.nov.,
G. posoica sp.nov., G. reitteri sp.nov., G. insolita sp.nov., G. darwini sp.nov.,
G. schneideri sp.nov., G. jesusi sp.nov., G. bruneica sp.nov., G. gibberosa sp.nov.
Habitus and detail drawings of characteristic structures of genitalia, pregenital segments and male metatibiae
are given.
Two new species of Bergrothia (B. solodovnikovi sp.nov. and B. adzharica sp.nov.) from Turkey and Georgia
are described
and illustrated. B. tibialis Hlaváe is placed as a junior synonym to
B. saulcyi (Reitter). A revised key of all known species
of Bergrothia is provided.
Asiaster hlavaci sp.nov. from Southern China is described and figured. The new species is compared with the existing
representatives of the genus Asiaster Cooman. Platysoma inexpectatum
sp.nov. from Syria is described and figured. It is as well compared with the related species P. deplanatum
Gyllenhal.
Laemostenus (Antisphodrus) catlosi sp.nov. from the Taurus mountains in Turkey is described, illustrated
and compared with the related species of the bodemeyeri species group. Key to the identification of the related species is
provided and some comments on the subgenus Antisphodrus are given.
The subgenus Cladoconnus of the genus Euconnus is recorded, for the first time, from Japan. One new species,
Euconnus (Cladoconnus) matsuae sp.nov., is described.
The present study is aimed at the autecology (life cycle, habitat preference, saprobic score, feeding types) and distribution
of Nemouridae from Slovakia. Special attention is paid to the morphology of nymphs and the characters that help species
identification. Now, 28 species of Nemouridae are known from Slovakia. The occurrence of Protonemura meyeri,
Nemoura mortoni and Nemoura longicauda in Slovakia was not approved. The shape and length of cercal segments,
length of bristles of cercal segments (Nemoura, Amphinemura), and the shape and length of bristles of abdominal terga
(Protonemura, Nemoura) were the best characters to distinguish the nymphs, including larvae of
Nemoura fusca and Protonemura aestiva, which were not known before. In general, Palearctic and European species
are steady widespread over the Slovak territory. Carpathian and namely Alpine-C.- European species are limited mostly to higher
mountains of the West Carpathians. C.- European species were found to be intermediate in this respect.
Galeruca (Emarhopa) rufa Germar, 1824 is reported for the first
time from Spain at two localities in the island of Mallorca (Balearic Islands). Comparison of the Balearic specimens with others
from different Mediterranean sources revealed no conspicuous differences in general habitus or genitalia. Male and female
genitalia are figured.
Stenelmis puberula Reitter, 1887 is recorded from several streams of
northeastern Slovakia. These localities represent the most northern distribution of species.
