Bergrothia tibialis sp.nov., an endogeous species of Amauropini from Turkey is described. Keys to related genera of all Bergrothia species are provided. top.gif

Jäch, M.A. & Castro, A. 1999. Revision of the Palearctic species of the genus Ochtebius XVII. Ochtebius (s.str.) andalusicus sp.nov. (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae). Entomol. Probl. 30(2): 7-8.

Ochthebius (s.str.) andalusicus sp.nov. (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae) from southern Spain is described. top.gif

Jendek, E. & Kalashian, M. 1999. Revision of the genus Coomaniella (Coleoptera: Buprestidae). Entomol. Probl. 30(2): 9-36.

Two subgenera Coomaniella (Tuberniella) subgen.nov. and Coomaniella (Strbaniella) subgen.nov. are described. Coomaniella (Coomaniellina) Bílý, 1974 is considered a synonym of Coomaniella (s. str.); 8 species groups in the nominotypical subgenus are established and diagnosed, 12 new species of Coomaniella are described: C. bicolor sp.nov., C. biformissima sp.nov., C. chinensis sp.nov., C. daoensis sp.nov., C. isolata sp.nov., C. lao sp.nov., C. nativa sp.nov., C. orlovi sp.nov., C. pacholatkoi sp.nov., C. prolonga sp.nov., C. sausa sp.nov. and C. siniaevi sp.nov. Coomaniella kurosawai Bílý is considered new junior subjective synonym of Coomaniella purpurascens Baudon. All species are keyed and illustrated, and full references are given. top.gif

Čiampor Jr., F. & Kodada, J. 1999. Description of two new species of the genus Jolyelmis from Mount Roraima, Venezuela (Coleoptera: Elmidae). Entomol. Probl. 30(2): 55-60.

Two new species, Jolyelmis derkai sp.nov. and Jolyelmis reitmaieri sp.nov. are described from Mount Roraima, one of the Venezuelan tepuis. The new species are illustrated with drawings and scanning electron micrographs. A key to species is provided. top.gif

Nováková, J. & Nedvěd, O. 1998. Developmental time and body mass in Pyrrhocoris apterus (Heteroptera: Pyrrhocoridae) under contrasting photo- and thermoperiods. Entomol. Probl. 30 (2): 95-98.

Developmental time in the fifth larval instar of Pyrrhocoris apterus (Heteroptera: Pyrrhocoridae) did not differ significantly between constant and alternating temperatures at two photoperiods. However, it was longer in diapause-inducing, short day conditions (12L:12D) than in long days (18L:6D) at high temperatures. Fresh body mass of the emerged adults did not differ between constant and alternating temperatures or was lower in the latter conditions. The body mass was generally higher in short day conditions, implying that the bugs used the longer developmental time to store reserves for the diapause period. top.gif

Roller, L. 1999. Check-list of the sawflies (Hymenoptera, Symphyta) of Slovakia. Entomol Probl. 30(2): 37-48.

In the present check-list of the sawflies of Slovakia, 565 species in 128 genera and 11 families are listed. The check-list is based on the most recent data from literature or on the author’s material collected in the 1990s. However, 7 species are known only from records more than 60 years old. The actual species richness for each family is estimated, and in total 630 – 680 species in 12 families should occur in Slovakia. Nine species were recorded in Slovakia for the first time. top.gif

Háva, J., Schneider, J. & Růžička, J. 1999. Four new species of carrion beetles (Coleoptera: Silphidae) from China. Entomol. Probl. 30(2): 67–82.

The following new species of carrion beetles are described, illustrated and compared with similar species. Ptomascopus zhangla sp.nov. (China: Gansu prov., Shaanxi prov., Sichuan prov.) differs from P. morio Kraatz, 1877 and P. plagiatus (Ménétriés, 1854) by the presence of curved, fossorial legs; mesh of randomly oriented cristae on head and pronotum, oriented to all directions; male clypeal membrane short, transverse; pronotum bicoloured, bare; tarsal empodium trisetose; and female tergum X bifurcate. Nicrophorus smefarka sp.nov. (China: Sichuan prov.) seems not to be closely related to any known species of the genus, although it shares some characters with N. dauricus Motschulsky, 1860 and N. przewalskii Semenow, 1894 (such as setation of dorsum and maculation) but differs in anteriorly narrow pronotum. Silpha businskyorum sp.nov. (China: Shaanxi prov.) belongs to the group of species related to S. carinata Herbst, 1783 and differs in having only a very superficial, hardly visible discal punctation on pronotum; elytra distinctly vaulted in lateral view; and the distal part of aedeagus abruptly narrowing to regularly rounded tip. S. schawalleri sp.nov. (China: Sichuan prov.) is closely related to S. qinlinga Schawaller, 1996 and differs in head with raised protuberance; pronotum with flattened lateral margin; elytra laterally narrow and only slightly elevated, all elytral ridges only weakly indicated; and aedeagus with robust basal portion and with wide, regularly tapered tip. top.gif

Schillhammer, H. 1999. Nomenclatoral changes in the subfamily Staphylininae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae). Entomol. Probl. 30(2): 91-93.

Numerous nomenclatoral changes are proposed for Oriental Staphylininae, chiefly concerning the genera Anisolinus Sharp, Algon Sharp, Rientis Sharp and Pammegus Fauvel. Two new names are proposed: Anisolinus birmanus nom.nov. (= Amaurochlamys malaisei Scheerpeltz, 1965); Algon dysanelloides nom.nov. (= Dysanellus brevipennis Cameron, 1933). The status of Staphylinus stenoides Gravenhorst is discussed. top.gif

Schödl, S. 1999. Description of Meranoplus birmanus sp.nov. from Myanmar, and the first record of M. bicolor from Laos (Hymenoptera: Formicidae). Entomol. Probl. 30(2): 61-65.

Meranoplus birmanus sp.nov. from Myanmar is described and compared with the similar M. bicolor (Guérin-Méneville). Diagnostic characters are pointed out and figured. The new species is keyed. Meranoplus bicolor is recorded from Laos for the first time. top.gif

Cooter, J. & Hlaváč, P. 1999. Liocyrtusa nigriclavis (Coleoptera, Leiodidae, Leiodinae), new to Slovakia. Entomol. Probl. 30(2): 66.

A new record of Liocyrtusa nigriclavis from eastern Slovakia is provided, and all so far known records of the species are discussed. Liocyrtusa nigriclavis is recorded for the first time in Slovakia. top.gif

Vršanský, P. 1999. Two new species of Blattaria (Insecta) from the Lower Cretaceous of Asia, with comments on the origin and phylogenetic position of the families Polyphagidae and Blattulidae. Entomol.Probl. 30(2): 83-89.

The family Blattulidae is found to be ancestral to the family Polyphagidae. Evidence is given that a Blattulidae-Polyphagidae lineage originated in at least the Lower Jurassic, possibly making the order Blattaria (and also living representatives of the order) paraphyletic in respect to Mantodea and Isoptera. The Blattulidae-Polyphagidae lineage, which independently lost its ovipositor, is a sister group to all the known living roach lineages. Vitisma rasnitsyni gen. et sp. nov. from the Lower Cretaceous of Siberia is described as the most primitive representative of the family Polyphagidae, with microstructures, sensilla and venation variability. Ctenoblattina tsaganica sp. nov. (Blattulidae) is described from the Lower Cretaceous of Asia. The systematic position of Cretoholocompsa montsecana Martinez-Delclos is discussed. top.gif
